Prime Video unveiled the first teaser trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 during Amazon’s inaugural upfront presentation in New York City this morning. The trailer for the second season of the Tolkien adaptation teased incredible amounts of epic battles, terrifying creatures, magical sea monsters, titular Rings of Power, and a fully-powered Sauron (Charlie Vickers) making mincemeat of various Middle-earth heroes. Not only that, but the first Lord of the Rings Season 2 trailer also confirmed what fans have long known: human hero Isildur (Maxim Baldry) did not die in Season 1 and has in fact teamed up with elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) to fight his way through Mordor. Prime Video also revealed today that that The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will debut globally on Thursday, August 29, 2024, aka Labor Day Weekend.
The first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power followed a young Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) as she fought to prove that evil still lurked somewhere in Middle-earth. Fate paired her up with a cunning human named Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) and they wound up in the legendary island of Númenor. After convincing the Númenoreans to join her and Halbrand in a quest to save part of Middle-earth from evil, Galadriel and her allies found themselves inadvertently seeing the birth of Mordor. By season’s end, Galadriel also learned that Halbrand was in fact Sauron.
According to Prime Video, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will follow Sauron’s rise to evil power: “Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.”
The trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 likewise shows our heroes on the ropes. Galadriel, Elrond (Robert Aramayo), and their allies are in full battle mode. Meanwhile, the dwarves are bemoaning the return of great evil. Cities are shown under attack and snakes slithering on the ground. The trailer promises a far creepier story than what we got in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1, which might be exactly what some fans are after…
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will premiere on Prime Video on August 29.
