Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos made their highly anticipated return to Live with Kelly and Mark on Tuesday, and rehashed what they were up to during their summer hiatus — including a touching and “teary eyed” moment for the co-host couple.
Consuelos recalled the “absolutely amazing” experience of watching Ripa be honored as a Disney Legend in Disneyland on Aug. 11, and proudly showed off pictures of Ripa at the ceremony, one of which was taken during her speech.
“I was there watching your speech. I got teary eyed,” he admitted.
Ripa replied, “I know. I looked away from you when I did. I was like, OK… So then I just looked at Angela Bassett the whole time.”
After Consuelos asked what she would have wanted him to do in that moment, Ripa clarified that she “didn’t want to be emotional” with Consuelos.
“I had the ones where they just kind of build up at the bottom of ring of your eyes,” Consuelos explained, referring to his tears. While Ripa highlighted that her husband’s eyes are “very big and very expressive,” Consuelos insisted that he was “trying to hold it together” for her.
Ripa added, “You know the emoji where the eyes are filled with tears? That’s what he looked like!”
Consuelos then pulled out a picture of himself, Ripa, and their daughter Lola at the ceremony, telling the studio audience that “it was so special” to have Lola in attendance and that she “was so proud” of her mother. Ripa then pointed out the red dress that Lola was wearing, which she revealed to be her own dress “from 30 years ago.”
“So I thought that was pretty cool,” Ripa gushed. “I was like, ‘See? Price per wear!'”
Consuelos continued praising Ripa’s achievement, noting that it was “really, really cool” to see her be honored alongside fellow nominees such as Bassett, Harrison Ford, James Cameron and Miley Cyrus. Ripa claimed that “it doesn’t seem possible,” and shared that she brought the award to keep on set, expressing her gratitude to Live EP Michael Gelman, WABC-TV’s Vice President of Programming Art Moore, and the show’s “entire collaborative,” whom she praised as “the reason” that she got the award.
