Tell your kids that summer isn’t over yet, because Despicable Me 4 is coming to digital platforms tomorrow. All hail our Minion overlords!

Despicable Me 4 is technically the sixth movie in the Despicable Me franchise, if you count the Minions spin-off films. Director Chris Renaud once again returns, as does star Steve Carell as the voice of Gru, the once-evil super villain who’s secretly a big ol’ softie. The star-studded voice cast also includes Kristen Wiig, Pierre Coffin, Joey King, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Sofía Vergara, Stephen Colbert, Madison Polan, Dana Gaier, Chloe Fineman, and Will Ferrell. This time around, Gru is forced to relocate his family when an old rival, Maxime Le Mal (voiced by Ferrell) comes after him. We assume the Minions will also somehow be involved.

Despicable Me 4 has only been in theaters for one month, and it’s an undeniable box-office smash. As of today, the film has earned over $752 million at the worldwide box office, and counting, making it the third-highest-grossing movie of 2024 so far. Perhaps that’s why Universal opted to wait a whole month before releasing Despicable Me 4 on digital, despite the fact that most 2024 Universal tiles have been pushed to “premium” video-on-demand after just over two weeks in theaters.

If you’re not willing to pay the premium VOD price for Gru, you should know that we expect Despicable Me 4 to stream on Peacock, the Universal-owned streamer, in the near future. Here’s what you should know about how to watch Despicable Me 4  online, and when to expect to see Despicable Me 4 streaming on Peacock.

Despicable Me 4 digital release date:

Beginning on Tuesday, August 6, Despicable Me 4 will be available to buy and rent digitally on Amazon PrimeApple TV, Vudu, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to purchase the film, but on Amazon Prime, the film costs $29.99 to buy a digital copy. The film will also still be playing in theaters.

The digital copy of Despicable Me 4 comes with two “exclusive Minion mini-movies.” The first is titled Game Over and Over, and the logline reads, “After stumbling upon a powered-up game controller inside Gru’s lair, the mischievous Minions discover its ability to control one another, unleashing mayhem as they compete for high scores.” The second is titled Benny’s Birthday, and the logline reads, “Benny finds himself trapped in a time loop of a Minion-style birthday party, encountering uproarious mischief at every turn.”

How to rent Despicable Me 4 online:

Despicable Me 4 will be available to rent on digital platforms like Amazon PrimeApple TV, Vudu, and more, beginning on August 6. The movie will cost $19.99 to rent, and you’ll have 48 hours to watch the movie after hitting “play.”

When will Despicable Me 4 be streaming on Peacock?

Despicable Me 4‘s streaming release date on Peacock has not yet been announced, but we know that Despicable Me 4 will stream on Peacock in the not-too-distant future, because it is a Universal movie, and Peacock is the streaming service owned by NBCUniversal. All the new Universal theatrical movies end up streaming on Peacock, though the wait period has varied by title.

Another Universal release, The Bikeriders, was pushed to VOD after just over two weeks in theaters, and it will begin streaming on Peacock on August 9—about a month-and-a-half after opening in theaters, and about one month after releasing on digital. That was a little faster than the usual Peacock release of Universal titles, possibly because NBCUniversal wants to further promote its streaming service, Peacock, during the 2024 Summer Olympics. If Despicable Me 4 follows a similar release pattern, you can expect Despicable Me 4 to stream on Peacock around September 2024—or possibly even sooner, again, to capitalize on the Olympics viewership.

This is all speculation, of course. If you want to watch the new Despicable Me movie at home right away, you can do so by buying or renting the film on digital beginning tomorrow.
