Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ career has been in a downfall since his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, filed a lawsuit in Nov. 2023 accusing the rapper of sexually abusing her throughout their decade-long relationship.
Though Combs and Ventura reached an undisclosed settlement just a day after the filing, new surveillance footage of an alleged dispute sheds new light on the allegations Combs has been facing in recent months, which were chronicled in the TMZ documentary, The Downfall of Diddy.
CNN obtained a surveillance video from 2016 that allegedly shows Combs throwing her to the ground, kicking her, and shoving her during an altercation in a Los Angeles hotel.
Ventura declined to comment on the video, but her attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, told CNN, “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs. Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”
Three other women came forward to accuse him of sexual assault after Ventura filed her lawsuit. In one instance, Combs was accused of sex trafficking and participating in the gang rape of a teenager in 2003.
Just months after his homes in Los Angeles and Miami were raided by Homeland Security in connection to a federal human trafficking investigation, TMZ explored the Diddy’s legacy – and downfall – in The Downfall of Diddy, a documentary featuring accounts from some of his former associates. Legal experts also weighed in on what could happen to the rapper amid these legal troubles.
The documentary showed former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O’Day speaking candidly about the “mistreatment” she experienced while working with the rapper.
“I’ve been in physically abusive situations and the verbal ones hurt me way more,” she said, per Vibe. “The abuse was significant enough to change the course of my life. On Making The Band alone, we experienced intimidation tactics, body-shaming, beatdowns and then when we thought we were absolutely nothing […] it was very much like he was training us to be good soldiers.”
Rapper Mark Curry speculated that Combs’ former acquaintances may be staying quiet in fear of retaliation. He claimed Combs had an elaborate surveillance system installed in his home.
“If they have 250 cameras from his home, they have a whole bunch of images or footage of things that were going on in his house,” Curry said. “You name it, he’s connected to them. If we start unraveling the thread of Diddy’s networks, you’re gonna find a lot of people – and like Jeffrey Epstein, some of them might be implicated.”
As BET News host Marc Lamont Hill put it, “Hollywood is eerily and noticeably quiet about all of the Diddy controversy right now. I think there’s a very simple reason for it; People in glass houses don’t want to throw stones.”
