With the Olympics winding down, it’s great time to check in the the latest movies on VOD, from family friendly faves, like Despicable Me 4, to historical dramas like Widow Clicquot and biopics like Girl You Know It’s True.
Yes, girl, it’s true, that last film is indeed a biopic about Milli Vanilli, the Grammy-winning group that was caught in a lip syncing scandal that feels like it happened a lifetime ago (I mean, it was 1990). It feels like it’s about time we got a movie about Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan, the men who fronted the group but whose voices were not used to sing their music.
These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.
Despicable Me 4
In Despicable Me 4, which happens to be the first Despicable Me film in 7 years, former supervillain Gru (Steve Carell) and his wife Lucy (Kristin Wiig) welcome a new baby and settle down for a peaceful life, which is ultimately disturbed when a vengeful Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) escapes prison. The cast also features Chloe Fineman, Miranda Cosgrove, and Joey King, and many other celebrity voices.
Widow Clicquot
Widow Clicquot is the real-life tale of Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot, the woman who took over for her husband after he died and turned his wine company – Veuve Clicquot, heard of it? – into the brand we all use to toast special occasions. This story of one woman’s determination and ambition stars Haley Bennett, Sam Riley, and Tom Sturridge; the film also features a score from The National’s Bryce Dessner.
