Michael C. Hall Set To Return For ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ Sequel Series

Dexter fans, rejoice! Michael C. Hall is set to return as Dexter Morgan in a sequel series titled Dexter: Resurrection at Showtime and Paramount+.

The actor appeared at the Dexter: Original Sin panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday to reveal the news. He also announced that he would narrate the Original Sin prequel series, which will debut in December.

“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO, of the new series. “While ‘Dexter: Ressurection’ will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, ‘Dexter: Original Sin‘ will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”

Hall starred in the original Dexter series, which aired on Showtime from 2006 to 2013. The network revived the show for a follow-up series titled Dexter: New Blood in 2021, which picked up 10 years after the original finale. All episodes of both shows are available to Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers.

According to Deadline, Resurrection is described as a sequel to New Blood, taking place in the present day. It is set to premiere in Summer 2025.

In addition to Hall, Friday’s panel featured Dexter: Original Sin showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, executive producer Scott Reynolds and cast members Christian Slater, Patrick Gibson, and Molly Brown. Guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar served as the moderator.

Set in 1991, the 10-episode prequel is set 15 years before the events of Dexter, following the lead character (Gibson) “as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer.”

Per the official synopsis, “When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry, he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.”

Slater portrays Dexter’s father, Harry, Brown plays his sister Debra, and Geller plays his boss at the station. Patrick Dempsey also stars in the series as Aaron Spencer, the Captain of the Miami Metro Homicide who has known Harry for a long time.

James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson also appear in the series.
