The Raleigh, North Carolina medical examiner’s office have confirmed the cause of death behind the recent, tragic passing of 20-year-old Sean Garinger.
TMZ reports that the 16 and Pregnant alum passed away in February from blunt force injury to the head after an ATV accident in Boone, North Carolina.
According to documents obtained by the outlet, Garinger passed away after his skull was fractured in multiple places during the accident.
His mother, Mary Hobbs, told The U.S. Sun that he was “moving it from one parking spot to the next” for her when the ATV flipped over and “crushed” his skull.
“I ran to neighbors trying to get someone to help me get the ATV off of him. No one answered. I ran back to him. By that time, I realized he wasn’t alive anymore,” she recalled, adding, “I just laid next to him until the ambulance showed up.”
Hobbs claimed that Garinger was planning on buying a car so he could drive to Colorado to see the two daughters he shares with ex-girlfriend Selena Gutierrez, with whom he was featured on 16 and Pregnant Season 6.
TMZ also reported that the family erected a memorial where the accident occurred with a sign reading, “We love you Squishy,” referring to his nickname.
Gutierrez reportedly told the outlet that she was “grateful” that he got to spend time with their two daughters — Dareli, 3, and Esmi, 19 months — just a few weeks before the tragic accident.
An inside source claimed the couple were no longer together at the time of death, but they had stayed in touch in the weeks leading up to the accident. They claimed Gutierrez was “not in a good place” after the loss.
The 16 and Pregnant alum was reportedly returning to school and pursing welding at the time of his death.
Garinger is survived by his daughters, Esmi and Dareli, his mother, and his sisters, Shania, Lydia, Isabella, Casslyn, Ember and Kayden.
