James Kennedy is clearing up some chatter about Vanderpump Rules as Season 12 hangs in limbo.
The longtime reality star shut down speculation about a reboot after a Bravo fan account relayed a rumor about the show’s future on its Instagram page.
“Vanderpump Rules to allegedly end with its next season which films in October,” the post read. “After a final farewell, the show will go back into filming SURvers from Lisa Vanderpump‘s restaurants as a total reboot.”
Kennedy, for his part, cheekily commented, “Y’all think you have it all figured out, huh.”
When Vanderpump Rules first came on the air in 2013, it followed the drama within a friend group that worked at Vanderpump’s West Hollywood restaurant SUR. While the show still follows that same group of friends (with the exception of Stassi Schroeder, Jax Taylor and Kristen Doute), they are no longer servers and bartenders for Vanderpump.
Not to mention, most of the cast seemingly doesn’t speak outside of filming anymore. It all started when Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix broke up in March 2023 after she uncovered his affair with their mutual friend and former co-star Rachel “Raquel” Leviss. While the girls in the group initially banded together, Lala Kent and Scheana Shay were critical of Madix in Season 11 for refusing to film with her ex-boyfriend, thus putting a strain on their relationships.
Madix confirmed on a recent episode of Watch Watch Happens Live that her friendship with Shay “took a big hit” after Season 11, though noted that they still talk “here and there.”
With tensions running high within the cast, production opted to press pause on filming Season 12 this summer. And a start date for filming still has yet to be announced.
“I don’t even know what the future of Vanderpump is. No one does at this point … It’s a weird — weird times,” star Katie Maloney said on the July 2 episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, before later adding, “I’m not gonna be concerned until it’s time to be concerned. And it doesn’t feel like this is time to be concerned.”
The first 11 seasons of Vanderpump Rules are currently streaming on Peacock.
