All clear, folks! Alicia Silverstone may have sparked concern among her fans after a video of her sampling a possibly poisonous berry went viral, but she has thankfully shared an update since, assuring all of us that she is not, in fact, deceased from her little snack.
“Alive and well!” she posted on TikTok Tuesday (Aug. 20), cheekily adding, “Don’t worry… I didn’t swallow.”
The Clueless star asked viewers to help her discern what the berry was in a TikTok she posted on Monday (Aug. 19), noting that she found the fruit “on the street” while in England.
“I don’t think you’re supposed to eat this,” she pondered after taking a bite. “But it’s almost like a pepper? Does anyone know what this is? I don’t know what it is. I need someone to tell me, I’m in England. Thank you!”
Those in the comments section believed the fruit to be the Jerusalem cherry, which according to MedlinePlus, contains the poisonous ingredient Solanocapsine. While the “poison is found throughout the Jerusalem cherry plant,” the poison is located “especially in the unripened fruit and leaves.” Among the symptoms are abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, headache, and nausea and vomiting.
Fortunately, Silverstone seems to be alright. However, fans claimed in the comments that they “need video proof” in order to be sure, as her most recent update did not feature any video of her, but rather just a picture of her.
Many were quite invested in her health status, writing that they had been “waiting for this.”
“You had us worried sis!” another commented.
“Girllllll I was stressing about you all night,” one fan penned, while another questioned why her update took “almost 24 hours.”
