AMC has renewed The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol for Season 3.
According to Deadline, production on the third season will begin next month and will be based in Madrid, with location shooting planned in the Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia, and Valencia regions.
Season three will continue to follow Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) as they resume their journey home to their loved ones. The treacherous journey amidst a Walker apocalypse challenges them further at every turn.
The news is somewhat surprising considering AMC told Decider back in 2022 that McBride would not even be appearing in the show in the first place due to its relocation to Europe.
“I’m really appreciating the new challenges for Daryl and Carol being so far from all they’ve ever known… what it means for them, what it brings for each of them, apart and together,” said McBride in a statement. “There’s still so much ahead to unpack in France for the coming season two, and a breathtaking finale. And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s storytelling is making the most of all that is so beautiful and unique to Spain. We start shooting there in just a few weeks… such excitement looking forward!”

“We are so proud of these shows and incredibly grateful for the way this new chapter in The Walking Dead Universe has been embraced by the fans,” said Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks. “Sending Daryl, and then Carol, to France was such an inspired and visually striking move for this franchise, a chance to do something truly different. We can’t wait to continue the travels of this iconic duo with a third season produced and set in Spain, another beautiful country with a passionate TWD fanbase that is already buzzing with anticipation.”
When the series first debuted in 2023, it quickly became the most-viewed premiere of all time on AMC+ and the most-viewed season of any show in AMC+ history. According to the platform, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live has been the only other show to surpass it in those categories.
In addition to Reedus and McBride, also starring in the series are Clémence Poésy, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, Laika Blanc Francard, Charrier, Romain Levi, and Eriq Ebouaney.
David Zabel serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Scott M. Gimple, Reedus, McBride, Greg Nicotero, Angela Kang, Brian Bockrath, Daniel Percival, Jason Richman, and Steve Squillante.
