There’s a time for blockbusters (summer, usually) and a time for quieter, more independent films to rise to prominence (this week in particular) on demand. Some of this week’s biggest movies on VOD feature some huge names, but you may have missed them earlier in the year, like Nick Jonas in the grief drama The Good Half, or Peter Sarsgaard in the dark comedy Coup!
There’s also the Elizabeth Banks thriller Skincare, in which the actress plays a woman launching a skincare line. When she suspects that a local aesthetician is trying to sabotage her success, she finds herself involved in a dangerous and deadly rivalry. The film co-stars Lewis Pullman, Nathan Fillion, and Michaela Jae Rodriguez.
These are just a few of the films that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now.
Coup!
In the dark comedy Coup!, Peter Sarsgaard stars as a cook hired by a wealthy family during the 1918 influenza outbreak. While they just want someone to cook them vegetarian meals, the cook has other ideas for them. Billy Magnussen and Sarah Gadon also star in the film, and Fisher Stevens appears as Upton Sinclair.
The Good Half
Nick Jonas stars as a grief-stricken man named Renn who returns to his hometown of Cleveland to mourn the death of his mother (played in flashbacks by Elisabeth Shue) in The Good Half. The film, directed by Robert Schwartzman, also features Matt Walsh, Brittany Walsh, Alexandra Shipp, and David Arquette.
