‘Inside Out’
Before Inside Out 2 hits theaters this weekend, go back to where it all began: 2015’s Inside Out. The Pixar animated movie takes place inside the head of 11-year-old Riley as she navigates some life changes and the big emotions that come with them — particularly Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger. Each emotion is personified and Joy (voiced by Amy Poehler) is the self-appointed leader of the emotions crew who aims to protect Riley’s happiness, and her core memories, at all costs. However, moving to a new school brings other emotions to the forefront, particularly Sadness (Phyllis Smith), who has accidentally started to taint the joyful core memories with a touch of sadness. The coming-of-age adventure takes Joy and Sadness into the far reaches of Riley’s memory bank as they have to work together to get back to Headquarters before Disgust, Fear, and Anger can take over for good. The result is a movie that’s as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming, with a particularly great and sneaky Pixar Cry Moment that brings it all together.
