Production on a new A24 film helmed by Ari Aster is about to begin. The new project, titled Eddington, has already generated a ton of buzz, despite little known information about the release.
Other Aster movies under A24 include Hereditary (2018), Midsommar (2019), and Beau is Afraid (2023), the last of which even scared Olivia Rodrigo out of the theater. According to Variety, Aster will direct, write, and produce Eddington with Lars Knudsen, while Darius Khondji will serve as the director of photography.
Eddington‘s cast is stacked — the film will feature Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler and Joaquin Phoenix, who also starred in Aster’s Beau is Afraid. The news not only arrives on the heels of Stone winning Best Actress for her performance in Poor Things, but also Butler’s starring role in Dune: Part 2, which hit theaters earlier this month, as well as his appearance in Apple TV+‘s Masters of the Air.
As for Pascal, he was announced as a member of Marvel’s Fantastic Four — which is slated for a theatrical release next July — and Phoenix is reprising his Oscar-winning role as the Joker alongside Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à Deux, which comes out on Oct. 4.
Here’s what we know so far about Eddington.
What will Eddington be about?
In A24’s post on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) shared on Tuesday (March 12), the production company teased the film as a “contemporary western.” Additionally, the only other intel they shared in terms of what viewers can expect is that the film is about “a small-town New Mexico sheriff with higher aspirations,” per Vulture.
When is Eddington being released?
There is no release date, but production on Eddington commences this week, per Deadline.
Who will star in Eddington?
Other than Stone, Pascal, Phoenix and Butler, Deadline reported that Clifton Collins Jr., Deirdre O’Connell, Luke Grimes, and Micheal Ward are also part of the cast.
